In our Italian culture, in the festivals of our country in which it is survivor, the ‘greacy pole’ is a popular game in which the competitors scramble up on a grease covered pole in order to catch hams, sausages or other kind of food.

The origin of this popular tradition is very ancient and probably it comes from a celtic cult of the fertility. In particular, the Germanic populations  always venerated the trees and celebrated their blooming with gifts and offerings.
